For those of you who have been following the happenings of Gizmo our Shih-tzu puppy on facebook and myspace, here is what is going on..
Well I am going to start from the beginning...
Gizmo, as stated above is our 6 month old shih-tzu puppy.. He came into our life about 4 months ago, and quickly became part of our family. Well New Years week Kayla tripped while carrying him and dropped him. Well apparently he landed just perfect, or absolutely unperfect and broke 2 toes on his front paw (which we didn't know until 2 weeks later, when he hadn't stopped limping so we decided to take him to the vet). So to make a long story short we took him to a Vet in Layton who diagnosed the broken toes and suggested surgery costing around $2,000.00. Well after opting for a splint for 6-7 weeks, and lots of loves and kisses we were on our way..
Back to today's story... beginning with last night :).. Kayla was sitting on the couch holding Gizmo and he was whimpering and every time she moved him he yelped. I checked him out and it seemed to be that bad leg bothering him again.. So I decided to take the splint off and see what was bothering him.. Well low and behold he had a huge open, seeping, swollen sore on his leg. So I doctored him up the best I knew how and was just relieved that the vet would be in tomorrow, worried that he had some terrible infection.. (We live in Kemmerer, the Vet only comes once a week). Today I brought him into the vet and was extremely relieved by what our Vet had to say... Gizmo would be fine, in fact his foot should be pretty much healed already. He does not need to wear the splint anymore, and just a little Neosporin on his sore (caused by the splint) should do the trick. When I told him that the Vet in Layton wanted to do surgery, it was a slap to the head reaction... He said Gizmo is a puppy and should bounce back no problems, he saw no reason for surgery at all. I have to say that tonight I am feeling much better about our decision of not putting Gizmo through surgery and all that pain, and that this is just a hump that he will be over soon... Not only that it saved us $2,000.00!!!
